Dr. Shaon Shahriar graduated MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College in 2003 and obtained his FCPS in Surgery from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2012. The years in between were spent across the public system as a medical officer, assistant registrar and junior consultant, at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital and district facilities in Faridpur, Mymensingh, Moulvibazar and Jhalakathi. 

That period is where the volume of routine and emergency abdominal surgery comes from. More than a thousand laparoscopic gallbladder operations, hundreds of laparotomies, and the kind of unscheduled operating that a subspecialist who has stopped doing emergency work slowly loses.

In 2016 he entered the MS Phase-B residency in the Department of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Liver Transplant Surgery at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, completing the degree in 2019. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2020, and in 2024 observed the liver transplant programme at Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru.

He was promoted to Assistant Professor at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College in 2019, to Associate Professor at Dhaka Medical College in 2024, and now holds that rank at Rajshahi Medical College, where he combines operating with the training of junior surgeons. He sees private patients at Aalok Healthcare and Hospital, Mirpur 10, Dhaka.
